Scarlet Bewitching

Scarlet Bewitching is a mixed media watercolor painting done by Ellie Paisley in the summer of 2014. Inspired by the age old Grateful Dead song "Scarlet Begonias" (to listen to the song, click the video link below the painting) - Bewitching features the profile of the beautiful model and photographer Becca Martin - the artist's literal girl next door.

The song scarlet begonia tells the story of a witchy woman who lives like a gypsy traveling from show to show and earning her living by enchanting and seducing unsuspecting men. More so the song is about personal revolution, and how the strength of your will power molds you as a person, and how in our moments of weakness we leave ourselves vulnerable.

Scarlet Bewitching shows the power and complexity of female energy, and how strength, more than often than not has very little to do with muscle.
